Travelers to the Canadian Rocky Mountains should be prepared for all types of weather year round. It was a whopping high of 7.C today throughout the Bow Valley. That includes Lake Louise, Banff and the town of Canmore. It’s supposed to get down to 4.C tonight. Yes it is mid July, but apparently someone forgot to inform Mother Nature of that.
Although it doesn’t happen often it is not uncommon to have a snow day during the summer. It’s all part of the crazy and unpredictable weather of the Rocky Mountains. Tomorrow it is supposed to be back up to 20.C again.
They closed the ice cream shop on the front of the Fairmont Chateau at Lake Louise today due to the cold weather and snow. Perhaps they should have stayed open and served hot chocolate instead! Snow was falling at Lake Louise hiking trails right to the level of the Lake Agnes Tea House.
This is a picture of the fresh snow on the mountains outside my window in Canmore. I’m watching a light soft rain fall right now, if it was any colder it would be snowing at ground level. An update to this post…..
The town of Jasper located 3 hours north of Lake Louise on Highway 93N got walloped today with 20cm of snow, and even more in the higher elevations. Weather Network Report
When the ski hill staff at Marmot Basin are actually working on preparations for the upcoming ski season, they were actually partaking in winter activities such as snowboarding on the hill!
