Aloha everyone. We are on our way to Hawaii. We will be gone for 5 weeks, spending one month on the Big Island and one week on the island of Oahu before returning home. We are two days away from leaving and can not wait to get out of here considering what we are leaving behind! As the plane flew away from Seattle we got an incredible view of what we think is Mount Baker. The weather in Hawaii was a bit of a surprise. The area was experiencing a major storm system. The flight between Honolulu to the Big Island of Hawaii was quite turbulent. When we landed we were shocked to see the … [Read more...]
At Least The Disaster Flight Turned Into Another Free Flight!
No Major Problems With Flying Around The World For 15 Months, Until The Last Flight Home! We have lost count of all the flights we have taken over the last 15 months. They were all problem free for the most part. Was it fate that the last flight of the entire trip would turn into a nightmare! To make a long story short, we were put on and taken off our plane several times over a period of seven hours!!! There was a mechanical problem with one of the engines. What it narrows down to is that Alaskan Air was too cheap to cancel the flight or get us another plane. They just kept on trying to … [Read more...]
Christmas And New Years In San Miguel De Allende
Merry Christmas To All Our Friends And Family We want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, or shall we say Feliz Navidad! We will be thinking of you over the holidays. We miss you, but not the weather!!! We had a quiet, but enjoyable Christmas to ourselves. It didn't feel like Christmas outside because it was sunny and warm. We made it feel festive and cozy inside by putting up a small tree, buying a large poinsettia and hanging up stockings on the fireplace. The main focus of Christmas here is still religion and family. There is no where near the same commercial aspect of the … [Read more...]

Hidalgo and Allende marched from here to San Miguel, then to Celaya and Salamanca and finally with an army that had grown to over 20,000 men they had their confrontation with royalist troops in the city of Guanajuato. A Town Famous For Ceramics And Ice Cream Today Dolores Hidalgo is just as well known as a center for the making of Talavera ceramic … [Read more...]

San Miguel Dining, Self Catering And Shopping
Finding Groceries And Supplies We have been exploring the town and trying to find all the places to buy food and supplies. You can get around on foot to most places in town. Some of it is steep walking up hills. The roads can be very rough with large uneven stones. If you have to take a taxi in town there are no meters. A simple flat fare of 20 pesos will get you where you need to go. Currently it is about 10 pesos to the Canadian dollar. We have been eating all kinds of food including lots of raw fruits and veggies. We did this for 3 months and had no problems. You can buy an iodine … [Read more...]

We engaged in conversation with a group of travelers sitting next to us. One couple that reside in San Francisco also have a property in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. They talked about how charming a place it was and how they thought we would really enjoy it there. They said if we ever wanted to rent the guest casita on their property there to let them know. Getting To San Miguel de Allende
Not Impressed With The Section Of LA Airport We Had To Wait In It was a long journey for us to get to San Miguel. We went over to Vancouver a day early and checked into a hotel. Our flight left at 6pm and landed in Los Angeles at 8:30pm. It was impressive to see the lights of LA as we came in to land. We had to sit in the airport until midnight waiting for our next flight to leave. Our thinking was that the LA airport would be great. I'm sure parts of it are, just not the holding area they had us in. It had a grungy looking Burger King, and a bar styled restaurant with nothing but greasy … [Read more...]
