Wow, what an amazing adventure. What can we say about it, can you really sum it all up in a few words. It was beyond anything we imagined.
We can honestly say we have been changed forever from this trip. Even months later we notice we look at things in a slightly different light. The experiences we have will be with us forever. We met so many incredible people along the way and have been and will remain in touch with many of them.
Everyone asks us what our favorite place was. How can you answer that when you have gone to so many incredible places. Different ones capture you for different reasons. Whether it was the spectacular scenery or the amazing people everywhere we went had something to offer.
Some highlights we can mention are…..
-the safari through the Serengeti, seeing lions and giraffes on the vast open space of land that seemed to go on forever.
-meeting and interacting with Masaai in Tanzania, what amazing people
-taking a boat along the St. Lucia estuary, floating past pods of hippos and huge crocodiles
-seeing traditional African dancing and listening to drumming in South Africa
-being humbled when taken to a village in South Africa by a son, meeting his parents and seeing the hut that his family lives in
-riding and ostrich in Outdshoorn, South Africa, something that will not be forgotten
-walking on top of Table Mountain in Cape Town, South Africa
-the crazy experience of Bangkok
-Three unforgettable days at the Elephant Nature Reserve in northern Thailand, feeding the elephants and bathing them in the river
-the temples and ruins of Southeast Asia, in particular Angkor Wat in Cambodia
-taking a boat around Tonle Sap lake in Cambodia, seeing the stilt houses and how the people live on the lake
-celebrating Thai New Years (Songkran) with the locals in Krabi, Thailand
-the friendly people and unspoilt scenery of the country of Laos
-seeing my brother and his girlfriend in Hong Kong, and having them show us the city
-the beautiful rice terraces near Guilin, China
-the Li River, the stunning pointed mountains and scenery
-Tibet, we can not express enough of how much we loved it. The people captured our hearts, seeing Mount Everest in front of us was breath taking. If a favorite does come to mind, this would be a strong contender.
-staying in a traditional hutong village in Beijing and experience a bit of what old Beijing must have been like.
-Floating through the canals of Venice.
-lazing on the beaches in the Algarve area of Portugal
-seeing the beautiful cathedral in Seville, Spain
-kissing the Blarney stone, and sipping Guinness in Dublin
-and finally, spending three months in San Miguel in Mexico, really getting to experience the flavor and culture of a place.
We dreamed about doing a trip like this for many years. We are so glad we had the courage to finally make it happen ( a huge jump in the housing market didn’t hurt either!) We have no regrets about leaving jobs or selling our house. We would do it over again in a minute and hopefully we will be. All we can think about is saving until we can take off again! So many more places to see.
So until our next adventure……………..
