Just minutes from San Francisco on the other side of the Golden Gate Bridge sits the tiny and charming seaside village of Sausalito. Many people say it reminds them of the Mediterranean. It has even been compared to the French Riviera. Another option to get to Sausalito is by ferry. The Sausalito Ferry will get you there faster than the bus or driving.
Sausalito is brimming with specialty shops and art galleries. It also offers breathtaking views of San Francisco. Bridgeway Avenue is the popular shopping district that has souvenir and gift shops and is known for its unique clothing stores. You’ll find art galleries, restaurants and open air cafes on Bridgeway Avenue as well. It’s a fun and fascinating place to just wander around. We had a meal at Spinnakers restaurant. It is situated over the water offering panoramic views of the San Francisco Bay and skyline. The food is good too, there are endless selections of seafood on their menu.
A unique feature of Sausalito is its floating houses. Each year in September the Floating Home Association does a tour. There are five marinas in Sausalito that house over 400 floating homes. Most home owners have an incredible view of either the mountains or the surrounding bay.
The floating houses are built in all kinds of interesting styles. They are adorned with beautiful flower boxes and colorful and unique garden decor.
