We arrived in London at Gatwick airport, neither one of us had been to this airport before. It cost an extreme amount of money to get into the city. The tube does not run to Gatwick. It was 40 pounds(over $80 Canadian) for a train pass. The pass did include all day tube access.
We made our way into the center of the city. We had pre booked a hotel near Paddington station. It was a nice hotel for 60 pounds, which was an absolute steal for London. When we arrived they had no information for our reservation. Thank goodness we got the name of the guy who booked the room and had taken our credit card number. It turned out in our favour, they had no rooms left for what we booked, so they upgraded us to a king size bed in a larger room.
If You Have A Chance To See The Lion King Musical It Is Well Worth It
We didn’t have a lot of time to do things. We decided to end the last night of our trip with seeing a show. What better way to end it with the irony of bringing our trip around full circle from where it started in Africa. We saw the live performance of the Lion King. It was amazing, we would recommend it to people of any age group.
The costumes were magnificent. The show started with life size elephant costumes coming down the aisles of the theater. There were giraffes, leopards, all kinds of birds, lions, and zebra. The stage and set had many moving parts. The music was great too.
One of the best parts of the show was a group of three hyenas. They were making funny jokes through out the show, it was like watching the three stooges. This was a great way to end the last day of our trip and bring back incredible memories of Africa. Unfortunately photographs were not allowed. I wish we could have taken some to show the incredible costumes to everyone.
Shopping At Harrods And Afternoon Tea
The next day we had about 2 hours to waste between check out and needing to get on the tube to Heathrow for our flight. We hopped on the tube and went to Harrods, we wanted to check out the store, since neither one of us had ever seen it. We had heard so much about their Christmas set up. It was a beautiful set up of Christmas trees decorated with all kinds of things. We also went to a tearoom across the street and had a big pot of tea and the most delicious scones with Devonshire cream and jam, yummmmmmm.
Now off to the airport to fly back home to Vancouver. What a mixed bag of emotions we were. We could not believe the year was over. We were sad about that, but excited to come home and see family and friends.
