Our Stay At The Fairmont Chateau Whistler
Our stay at the Whistler Fairmont was near the end of September. Overall we thought the Fairmont Whistler was quite nice. We are lucky enough to stay at a very good rate through the employee program as my husband Jack works for another one of their properties. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a deluxe view room that overlooked the pool area and ski hill.
The Fairmont Chateau Whistler is at the base of Blackcomb Mountain in what is known as the Upper Village. In addition to all the usual hotel amenities it includes the ability to ski-in and ski-out, an on site golf course and a Vida Wellness Spa.
We spent only one night at the hotel. We found the service we had friendly and the one meal we ate in the Mallard Lounge to be very tasty. We both had a portobello mushroom burger. It was a hefty size and very tasty. A house green salad came on the side with a tangy raspberry vinaigrette. The full cost of the burgers would have been $18, a bit steep, but Fairmont restaurants are at the higher end of the price scale. The lounge has an extensive drink menu.
In the evening we decided to order room service. We had a thick mushroom soup, a plate of artisan cheeses and crackers, and yam fries with a curry dip. We enjoyed the salad that came with our burger earlier so much that we ordered it again.
In the morning we chose to go downstairs to the Portobella Market And Fresh Bakery. There you can get some more reasonably priced options for breakfast or lunch. We were on our way back to Vancouver so we stocked up with some items to go such as muffins and yogurt parfaits. The nice part about Portobella’s is the made to order sandwiches. We got some tuna ones made to eat later in the day.
There are several other restaurant choices at the Fairmont. The Wildflower is a more casual choice for breakfast, dinner and Sunday brunch.
The Wine Room is a bit more formal in atmosphere. It features fresh, local Pacific Rim cuisine.
The Mallard Lounge And Terrace is open from 11am to 1pm. You can have afternoon tea or a meal. There are several comfortable seating areas to just lounge with a cocktail, or belly up to the bar to take in the current game on t.v.
The pool area has several different options to enjoy. The main heated pool is a swim out one. There is a large jacuzzi pool and a good size lap pool as well.
The bottom floor of the hotel offers upscale boutiques, art galleries and souvenir shops.
