When you travel, it's the people that make a place special. Tibet is no exception. We found the culture, traditional clothing and devotion to religion fascinating. Of all the places we have been to around the world, it was the Tibetan people who touched us the most. The language barrier prevented us from talking with the majority of them, but that didn't stop the communication. As we visited areas of Lhasa, particularly around the Johkang we were continuously smiled at. … [Read more...]
Surviving The Toilets Of China
It was a shock to go to the washroom for the first time in China. It was during a stop in a rural while taking a Sleeper Bus from Hong Kong to Yangshou. The bus was equipped with a small closet washroom, but I never saw anyone use it. If the locals were not using it, I wasn't about to. We had been warned about the toilets in China, but nothing could have prepared me for this experience. I followed other ladies from the bus into the building that housed the facilities. I was preparing myself to use a squat toilet for the first time, but to my surprise it was even worse. … [Read more...]

Vulture Restaurants
A Vulture Restaurant is a specific site where carcasses are provided as a source for vultures to feed from. They are unique eaters in that they only feed from the meat of dead animals. Vultures have nearly been driven to extinction because they were thought to be nothing more than disease spreaders. They are however an important part of the natural ecology. A leading cause in the vultures decline is due to a widely used medicine that farmers give to their livestock. It is lethal to the vulture when they eat the carcass of these animals. Other reasons the numbers have plummeted are due to a … [Read more...]

Stage Your Own Bed In At The John Lennon Suite In Montreal
You might not be able to afford to stay in bed for a full week like John and Yoko did, but perhaps you can pack up your pajamas and spend one night in the suite where they staged the famous "bed in" for peace. On a recent trip to Montreal I gave my husband an incredible birthday surprise. We booked the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth Hotel for our stay in the city. Many of you might not be aware, (I wasn't myself) that this is the hotel where the bed in event took place. John Lennon and Yoko Ono stayed in a suite in the hotel from May 26 to June 2, 1969. It was also this very suite where the … [Read more...]
